Improving Indexing options in Windows Vista

The indexing service in Vista is responsible for indexing files for tracking purposes. This in turn improves searching capabilities. By default Windows automatically indexes all files in user profile folders, the start menu and any files for offline access. For maximum performance when using Windows Vista disabling indexing for all other locations other than the Start Menu can improve performance. This will lessen the amount od data thet the indexing option needs to process. Of course altering the indexing options can decrease the performance of searches.

The following steps can be used to alter the indexing options:

  1. Click on the Start Button and type in “Indexing Options” and hit “Enter”once the option appears.
