Microsoft Internet Explorer Tips for Errors
No matter what version of Internet Explorer, also known as IE, you are running you are bound to encounter an error sometime. Most errors are simple and easy to repair, even for the most novice of computer users. The first thing you need to find out before you can start repairing the errors you may have is what version of IE you currently have. To do this, you can go to the Help Menu of an open IE window and select About Internet Explorer. A dialog box will appear with your current version number of IE. Most users will have IE 6 or IE 7. The format should read similar to: 6.0.2900.2180.
Most common errors that occur when using IE 6 can be repaired using Microsoft’s restore feature. Below are the 2 methods of using this restore feature.
Please note: Both methods listed require that the Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM be available.
Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP
* From the Start menu, select Run.
* In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
* Click OK.
* Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
* Restart your computer when System File Checker is complete.
Method 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP
* Go to your Start Menu, select Search, choose All Files and Folders.
* Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside the Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
* Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
* In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
* In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: (or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.)
* Click the Search button.
* In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
* Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
* Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
Also, you may want to upgrade to Internet Explorer version 7 if you are experiencing continuous errors with Internet Explorer version 6. Microsoft has greatly improved the operations of Internet Explorer with the IE7 upgrade. You can upgrade at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
Now, if you already have IE7 and you encounter issues a simple reinstallation may solve the error(s) completely. Microsoft recommends uninstalling IE7 by going to your Control Panel and then Add/Remove Programs. Remember to check the Updates box at the top of the window. Highlight the Internet Explorer 7 entry and select Remove. Have it uninstall IE7 and then restart your computer. There are many known issues with the installation of IE7 and this may be why the errors appear during use.
Once restarted use the link below to reinstall the IE7 upgrade:

Runtime errors are common error messages that appear during IE7 use. These can be fixed several different ways. The below 3 options are just a few of the ways to repair runtime errors in IE7.
* If you cannot open IE at all, start IE without add-ons. To do this, go to your Start Menu and select All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No add-ons). If you are then able to open IE7, than you know that add-ons were the case.
* There may be an add-on interfering with IE7. If so, you need to disable add-ons. First, go to the Tools Menu of an open IE7 window and select Add-on Manager, uncheck the add-ons. Close all IE7 windows and open a new one to see if the issue is resolved.
* Reset IE settings to their original. Go to the Tools Menu of an open IE window and select Internet Options -> Advanced. Click on the Reset button and select OK. Close all windows and restart your computer.
There are many other ways to repair Internet Explorer issues but the above are commonly found to solve most issues.
