Recovery Console for Windows XP

Windows XP has a Recovery Console on the CD. This feature can be used to fix issues that may be causing your system starting up properly. If your computer will not boot up at all then you may need to use your Windows XP CD to do so. Most often, if you purchased your Windows XP system new, this CD is included.  You can obtain one at Microsoft’s website. There is also a Windows XP Setup Boot disk available if your computer does not have a CD-drive.

Once you have started up your Windows XP computer using the CD, you will notice a few options. Those options are:

1.) To setup Windows XP now, press Enter.

2.) To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console press R.

3.) To quit setup without repairing Windows XP press F3.

Press the R button on your keyboard to start the Recovery Console.

The next step will ask which Windows installation you would like to repair. Usually there is only one option available. Then you will need to enter the Administrator password to continue. After the password is entered simply follow the wizard prompts to repair the issue.

Below is a useful list of command prompts to help you through the wizard.
