The Best Way to Boost Vista Performance
There are many things that can be done to improve the performance of the Vista operating system. One of the best ways to free resources on Windows Vista is by disabling Vista Aero. Vista Aero is a set of features that include visual effects, including helpful animations, transparent glass menu bars, and live thumbnail previews of open programs. Aero is set as the default theme from installation providing you have an adequate graphics card. Sure it looks nice, but just try taking a look at the freed resources after disabling it. There are a few ways to disable Aero.
Follow the directions below to disable Areo:
1. Right click the empty desktop and choose "personalize"
2. Select Window color and apperance (See picture below)
3. Under color scheme "WIndows Vista Basic" (See picture below)
This will still employ the Vista look without the resource consuming effects. Remember: This will also disable the 3-d flip option for the desktop.
Employing this strategy will free up available for more system critical operations. You should perceive a noticeable performance improvement just by disabling this one Vista feature. There are other strategies which can be used to boost performance but by far this is the easiest to perform and will release more resources for system operations.

Hi,
As i wanted to change vista aero into vista standard ,
i suddenly noticed 'aero scheme' is not available , at least not listed.
Can this be downloaded?
I do have vista ultimate version, so i assume the aero feature should be available with this version.
Please advise,
